About Spencer Christopher Yacht and Ship

Spencer Christopher Yacht and Ship Inc. is an independent yacht brokerage operating along the Eastern Seaboard and the Bahamas, serving private clients across the full market — from center consoles to superyachts. Our principals hold longstanding credentials in the industry: licensed and bonded Florida yacht and ship brokers, CPYB-certified, IYBA members, with active sea time and hands-on experience in every phase of a transaction. We are building a house of serious brokers, and our reputation depends on the quality of what goes out under our name at every step, including — especially — at closing.

The Role

The Closing Director owns every yacht transaction from accepted offer through funded closing. You are the operational and compliance authority on documentation, escrow, survey and sea trial coordination, and title transfer. You work directly with our principal broker, our brokerage team, buyers, sellers, marine lenders, surveyors, attorneys, USCG documentation services, and flag state registries to move each transaction to completion without error and on schedule.

This is not a sales role. It is a precision role. The standard is a closing that survives a title search, a lender audit, and a client's attorney review without a single open question. Our clients are high-net-worth individuals who expect professionalism and discretion at every touchpoint, and the closing process is often the moment they remember longest.

Responsibilities

You will manage the full closing lifecycle for all transactions handled by Spencer Christopher Yacht and Ship. Specifically:

  1. Prepare, review, and execute all closing documentation, including purchase and sale agreements, amendments, addenda, bills of sale, USCG bills of sale, HIN and documentation verification, USCG Abstract of Title, state registration transfers, and foreign flag cancellations as applicable.
  2. Serve as the primary escrow coordinator — receipt of deposits, disbursement of funds, accounting of brokerage commissions, and prorations — in strict accordance with Florida statutes and IYBA/FYBA protocols.
  3. Coordinate survey and sea trial scheduling and logistics, confirming attendance of all required parties and maintaining timeline integrity through contingency periods.
  4. Liaise with marine lenders and their counsel to align closing timelines, satisfy documentation requirements, and facilitate simultaneous closings on financed transactions.
  5. Manage complex title situations: corporate or trust ownership, foreign-flagged vessels, vessels with existing USCG or foreign documentation requiring cancellation, and transactions involving multiple jurisdictions.
  6. Maintain a complete transaction file for each closing — organized, current, and audit-ready from offer through post-closing recordkeeping.
  7. Communicate clearly and proactively with all parties throughout each transaction, providing status updates on timeline, open items, and next steps.
  8. Support our growing broker team with closings process guidance, ensuring consistency and compliance across all transactions regardless of which broker originated the deal.
  9. Track regulatory changes affecting vessel documentation, escrow requirements, and broker licensing obligations, and keep internal procedures current accordingly.

Qualifications

We are looking for a professional with a demonstrated record in yacht transaction closings. The following qualifications are required or strongly preferred:

  1. Minimum five years of experience managing closings in the yacht or marine industry, with direct responsibility for documentation, escrow, and USCG filing.
  2. Working knowledge of USCG vessel documentation requirements, including preferred ship mortgage procedures, abstract of title processes, and foreign flag cancellations.
  3. Familiarity with IYBA Yacht Purchase and Sale Agreement and associated addenda; fluency in the standard workflow of a brokered yacht transaction.
  4. Experience coordinating marine lending transactions, including simultaneous closings and lender documentation packages.
  5. Florida yacht broker license preferred; candidates without a license must be willing to obtain one.
  6. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple active transactions simultaneously without loss of accuracy or detail.
  7. Professional written and verbal communication appropriate to a high-net-worth client environment.
  8. Proficiency in transaction management software and standard office applications.

What We Offer

Spencer Christopher Yacht and Ship is at an early and deliberate stage of growth. The Closing Director joins a team being built with intention — small enough that your work is visible and consequential, large enough that the pipeline is real and growing. We offer a competitive compensation structure, a professional environment that values craft and accuracy over volume and speed, and the opportunity to help shape the operational standard of an independent brokerage built to last.
