Peter and Nicholas Stamas won first prize at the Florida State Fair with a 22-foot wooden cruiser in 1938 and opened the yard at Tarpon Springs in 1952. They were early to fibreglass and had left wood behind entirely by 1959; the company calls itself the oldest continuously family-owned and family-operated boat manufacturer in the United States.
