Steve and Diane Potts put their $50,000 of savings into an old brick building in 1989 and started on 14- and 15-footers. Hurricane Hugo flattened it that September; Potts spent what was left on booth space at the 1990 Atlanta Boat Show and came home with 31 prospective dealers.
