Captain John “Pop” Rybovich opened the yard on the Intracoastal in 1919 doing repair work for the commercial fleet, and the family invented much of modern sportfishing from it — the fighting chair, in 1933, among the first. From the late 1940s the brothers Tommy, John and Emil built the boats that defined the type for the next half century.
