Chris-Craft Building since 1874.
Christopher Columbus Smith built his first boat in 1874, aged thirteen, on the St Clair flats. His sons broke from Gar Wood to form Chris Smith & Sons in 1922, and it was son Hamilton who coined the name. Henry Ford and William Randolph Hearst bought the results.
