Lorenzo Benetti opened a yard at Viareggio in 1873; his sons Gino and Emilio renamed it Fratelli Benetti after his death in 1927. It still works from that historic Viareggio site and from Livorno — at 240,000 square metres, the largest active shipyard in the world.
