Benjamin Bénéteau built sail-powered wooden trawlers rugged enough for the North Atlantic and fast enough to be first back to port, which is where the money was. He drew the region's first engine-powered fishing boat in the early 1900s; the local fishermen said the motors would scare the fish. Still headquartered in the same town.
